What is Prosthodontics (Prostheses)?

Prosthetic dental treatment is an important treatment area that enables our patients to regain their chewing function, speech ability and smile aesthetics by providing aesthetic and functional solutions to replace missing or damaged teeth.

As a result of the loss or wear of teeth for various reasons, problems may occur in physiological functions such as chewing and speaking. The distance between the tip of the nose and the tip of the jaw, which is called the vertical dimension (mouth height) of the patient, decreases, which prepares the ground for jaw joint disorders. At the same time, resorption (melting) occurs in the jaw bones with tooth loss, and this situation eliminates the support applied by the jaw bones to the surrounding soft tissues, the lips and the area around the mouth. Such conditions cause thinning of the lip thickness, which causes an aged appearance, and the formation of wrinkles around the mouth.

These problems are overcome with prostheses that compensate for completely or partially lost teeth, and at the same time, a more aesthetic and youthful appearance is made possible by providing support to surrounding soft tissues such as lips and cheeks.

Fixed prostheses  include crowns (veneers), bridges and leaf porcelain called laminate veneers. These types of prostheses are applied by the dentist by bonding on the teeth.

Removable prostheses are the type of prosthesis that patients can wear and remove at any time. Total dentures that can be applied when there are no teeth left in the mouth and partial dentures that can be applied in partial tooth loss are types of removable dentures.
