What is Dental Extraction and Surgery?
Teeth extraction and surgery are procedures that we perform when necessary to maintain oral health or to prepare the ground for other dental treatments.
Although it is ideal to use permanent teeth throughout life, tooth extraction may be necessary for many reasons. The most common reason is that the teeth have been damaged beyond treatment due to trauma (impact, bump) or decay. In some cases, the infection may be so severe that it cannot be treated with root canal treatment and antibiotics. In such cases, tooth extraction may be necessary to prevent the infection from spreading.
In addition, in cases where there are many teeth that do not fit in the jaw and orthodontic treatment is required, tooth extraction may be considered appropriate as a preparation for orthodontic treatment.
Teeth that have not erupted above the gum or are embedded in the bone are also considered for extraction when necessary.
Tooth extraction can also be performed surgically depending on the case (e.g. impacted wisdom teeth).
